Trevor Perry Claar, 19, of Newport News passed away peacefully in his sleep at home May 30, 2017 as a result of respiratory issues sustained from a tragic spinal cord injury on June 24, 2016.  He was born December 19, 1997 to John Claar and Jessica Wright Claar.  He attended Menchville High School where he was a member of the wrestling and football teams. Trevor lived his short but meaningful life at full speed.  He excelled in all sports and was particularly gifted in football, baseball, basketball, skateboarding, wakeboarding, snowboarding, kayaking and fishing.  All who knew Trevor, knew he was a fighter and fought for his survival when others would have given in.  After 8 surgeries and countless emergency visits to 4 different hospitals, Trevor defied the odds and fought until there was no fight left.

Trevor was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Marie Wright and John and Sandra Claar. Trevor is survived by his father, John Claar and his mother Jessica Wright Claar; sisters, Sandra Claar Powell and Kelsey Claar; his brother-in-law, Wesley Powell; his one and only nephew, Carsyn; uncle, William “Bill” Wright;  aunt, Debra Wright Myslinski and uncle, Ed Myslinski; uncle, Mark Claar and aunt, Lisa Claar; cousins Michael and Matthew Myslinski; Zac and Mark Claar and many close friends.

The family would like to offer sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr Andrew Zadoff and the amazing staff of The Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA as well as the emergency room staff, critical care doctors and nurses at Sentara Norfolk General, Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA and all others who gave such loving and supportive care to Trevor throughout the past 11 months.  Heartfelt thanks to countless friends, volunteers and strangers who assisted in converting the family home into a handicap-accessible, independent residence for Trevor to live comfortably and safely.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 2, 2017 from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Weymouth Funeral Home. A Service to Celebrate Trevor’s life will be held at 11:00a.m., Saturday June 3, 2017 at the Freight Shed, 331 Water Street, Yorktown Beach.  Friends are asked to wear bright colors in honor of Trevor’s brilliant and bright personality.  Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to help with funeral expenses, made payable to his oldest sister, Sandra Claar Powell, 12746 Nettles Dr., NN, VA 23606.
