Robert “Bob” L. Kobs, 85, of Newport News passed away Monday, November 20, 2017 at Riverside Walter Reed in Gloucester, VA. Bob was born in Cecil WI, November 7, 1932, to Emil O. and Selma L. (Herm) Kobs.
Bob attended country schools and later Gillett High School. He quit school to join the USAF in 1948, where he reached rank of MSGT. After retiring from USAF, he settled in Newport News.
Bob enjoyed camping, traveling, family and friends. After his retirement from Noland Company in 1996, he and his late wife, Erika M. Kobs (1930-2003), travelled extensively, visiting friends they met throughout their many USAF stations and those they met camping. They both enjoyed spoiling their grandsons.
Bob is survived by his sister, Lois Elbe of Green Bay WI; son-in-law, Allen J. Briggs Jr,; four grandsons, Derek and wife, Jenny Briggs, Christopher and wife, Katrina Briggs, Brandon and wife, Melyssa Briggs and Kenneth Hopkins; and eight great-grandchildren, Haley, Lane, Abigail, Joey, Levi, Casen, Caleb, and Hynleigh. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil O. and Selma L. (Herm) Kobs; his wife, Erika M. Kobs, and daughter, Cindi (Kobs) Briggs. Bob was also known as “Opi” by his grand/great-grand children. He spent his days being devoted to all of his grand/great-grands. Opi was loved dearly and will be greatly missed by all.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Weymouth Funeral Home by Pastor John Pouchot of Petsworth Baptist Church, Gloucester. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
