Richard Earl Lytle, 94, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away peacefully June 25, 2017 with his loving daughter, son-in-law, and thanks to his grandchildren Beau, Vonnie, Heather, and Brandon and his close friends Tommy and Nancy Ferguson, and Jeremy and his family for all their loving support.

He was born December 26, 1922 in Median, Missouri to Harry Lee Lytle and Leona Boxell.  He spent his years growing-up around the oil fields of Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Carter Nine Oklahoma was his favorite place with wonderful memories of fishing, hunting, playing basketball, and cooling off in the ponds. He was an avid bowler. He served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Richmond from 1941 to 1946. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1966 and served a tour in Vietnam. He was proud of his service to his country and was a member of the VFW #2006. He worked at Ft. Eustis as an instructor for the civil service in the sheet metal department.

He is now resting with our beloved mother Mildred whom he has missed terribly. They were married for over 70 years. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Lytle; his dad, Harry Lytle; mother, Leona Boxell Lytle; brothers, Harry Jr., William and Robert; and sister, Mary.  Left to celebrate his memory: daughters, Karen Lytle-Kelly of Tampa FL, Linda Lytle Mann (Stacy) of Newport News, VA; son, Michael E. Lytle (Ann) of Tallahassee, FL; his twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren and his cockatiel, Budweiser, which was great company to him.

Thank you to Dr. Taylor for his special care of both Mildred and Richard. A special thank you to Grace Hospice for their excellent care and his home health care girls, Susan and Angela; he really enjoyed your company. The family will receive friends from 11:00-12noon on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Weymouth Funeral Home.  Funeral Services will be conducted at 12Noon at the funeral home chapel with interment at follow at Hampton Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
