Patrick Francis Baker born in Far Rock Away, NY died peacefully at home surrounded by love on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Pat, dad, daddy, grandpa, gramps, pops, pop-pop will be tremendously missed. A loving, gentle, generous human being, respected and adored by those that knew him, except maybe not adored by the young recruits that he “molded” into fine young Marines on Parris Island as a Drill Instructor in 1959-61. As a career Marine, Pat served one tour in Korea and two in Vietnam; he was a proud Gunny all his life. He loved the Corps and loved this country and lived by the motto Semper Fidelis – Always Faithful; faithful to God, his family, his country and his Green Bay Packers (even when they didn’t go to the Super Bowl).
Pat is survived by the love of his life, Grayce Baker, his wife of 63 years; his daughters, Cheryl (Chris) Panos, Barbara Adams, Connie (Kevin) Topp, and Gracelyn (Fred) Mirick; 11 grandchildren and 10 ¾’s great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters. Our family would like to thank Dr. J. Almeida with TPMG and the nurses and staff from Medi Home Health. We love you dad, and we’ll miss you. Until we see you again, OORAH!
The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Newport News, VA followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in memory of Patrick F. Baker and mailed to the Marine Corps Association Foundation 715 Broadway St. Quantico, VA 22134 or online at www.mca-marines.org/donate, or to the Virginia Peninsula SPCA.
