Orian R. (Moe) Moss, 91, passed away Nov. 16, 2017. Born in Bloomingdale, PA on Oct. 2, 1926, Orian had been a Peninsula resident since 1946. Orian enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17. He married his loving wife, Betty, Aug. 6, 1945; she preceded him in death, after 63 years of marriage. After leaving the Navy, Moe worked as an aircraft mechanic at Naval Station Norfolk, he then transferred to NACA, later becoming NASA, where he retired after 30 years service. He also retired from the Naval Reserve in 1966, not long after being called back into active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Moe worked part-time at Village Supply, where he met many friends and agreed to do many plumbing jobs. Moe’s generosity and good humor touched many on the Peninsula. He was an avid hunter, belonging to the Shady Grove Hunt Club. He swam regularly at the Peninsula YMCA, and volunteered at the Newport News Police Outreach center. Moe loved baseball and especially enjoyed attending Warwick Little League and Menchville Baseball games.
He is survived by his brother, Harold Moss (Kay) of Mocanaqua, PA; his children, Carol Preston, Tommy Moss, and Ronnie Moss of Newport News; and grandchildren, whom he was very proud of, Chris Moss of Newport News, Ben Preston (Lynsey) of Richmond, and Andy Preston of Newport News.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 6:30pm, Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:30pm on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Weymouth Funeral Home with Interment to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
