Dietra Elise Green Breedon, 54, of Newport News, VA, transitioned on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Mayfair, London, England.

She was well known for her love of learning and excelled in every aspect of her schooling. She enjoyed her time at Roy Bright (pre-school), Walsingham Academy, Menchville High School (Class of 1988) and Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

Dietra used her summers wisely. During her first summer in high school, she was selected to attend Girls’ State in Farmville, VA. Her second summer was spent at the Wall Street Seminar in New York City, followed by the Congressional Seminar at Marymount College in Arlington, VA during her third summer.

Dietra participated in many activities including: ballet, swimming, cheerleading (Walsingham Academy), swimming, dance team, student government, extemporaneous speaking, Model UN and Mayor’s Youth Commission. She did missionary work in a hospital for babies in Haiti, fed the homeless in Newport News, New York and London. She worked in banking and investments in New York City, South Africa and London.

Dietra became of member of St. Jerome Church at an early age and continued her spiritual walk with many of the Catholic churches where she visited. She became a loved member at Farm Street Catholic Church in Mayfair, London. Dietra was a loving and giving woman who deeply cared for her family, others and the Church.

Dietra was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Leslie L. and Theresa Basnight Garrett; and her father, Ronald Tyrone Green of Baltimore, Maryland. She is survived by her parents, Linda Garrett Hairston and Harold K. Hairston of Newport News, VA; her aunt, Diane G. Copeland (T. Wayne) of Newport News, VA; her cousins, Erica N. Smith (William Earl) of Hinesville, GA, Jamalh K. Greene (Jimesha) of Raleigh, NC, Erin J. Delk (Johnnie) of Atlanta, GA, Matthew, Taylor, Janelle, Jiair, Jordan, Jayla, Jaxson and Jamalh II. She also leaves behind a host of many loving family members and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at St. Jerome Catholic Church by Rev. George Prado. Inurnment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Hampton Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
