Noeleen McDonald Curran, 99, died on January 6, 2024 (The Feast of the Epiphany) surrounded by her 10 children. Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland to Richard and Annie McDonald, she was preceded to heaven by her parents and brothers and sisters; Frank, Florence, Gus, Joan, Martin and Dermot. Our dad, Edward Kevin Curran, predeceased mom in 1980. Grandchildren Katie and Conor are waiting in heaven for mom as well. Growing up in St. John’s, mom attended the Presentation Convent School, and enjoyed winter sports such as skiing and skating. She was an accomplished figure skater. She met dad while working at Fort Pepperell AFB. They married and a decade later moved to New York State, eventually settling in Newport News in 1970. Mom was active outside the home as well. She took classes, loved her exercise group, and was a member of the Mary Immaculate Hospital Board of Directors for 7 years and was honored by the hospital for having far and away the highest number of volunteer hours in her 35 years of service. She particularly loved the Mardi Gras ball and working with her many friends for so many years.

As a 50+ year parishioner of St. Jerome Catholic Church, mom taught Sunday School, was a member of the Parish Council, Building Committee, and participated in faith development. Her Catholic faith was the most important thing to her other than family. She attended Mass and prayed the rosary daily and encouraged her children to maintain their faith. Noeleen was a Newfoundlander to her core and loved her homeland. She visited the Fogo Island Inn and her home in St. John’s just 2 years ago.

She is survived by her 10 children: Edward, Ann, Deborah, Leslie, Derek, Pamela, Susan, Ian, Constance and Darcy; her sons/daughters-in-law: John, Charlie, John, Clay, Arnold, Denny, Jennifer and Suzanne; her 17 grandchildren: Noelle (Matt), Leslie, Erin (Tim), Sarah (Ryan), John (Lauren), Grace (Colton), Trevor, Carla (Ryan), Lisa, Reilly (AJ), Denny (Jess), Matt, Madison, Ryan, Aiden, Bailey and Ella; great-grandchildren, who referred to her as CC are: Cole, Curran, Courtney, Colleen, Brynn, Zoey, Piper, Ryan and Abby. Mom also leaves a host of nieces and nephews including Francis (Jean) McDonald; Gerard (Linda) Power; and Rosemary (Doug) McDonald with whom she was especially close.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:30 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Weymouth Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at St Jerome Catholic Church by Rev. George Prado. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. In memory of Noeleen Curran donations can be made to St. Jerome “Abundant Grace, Unwavering Faith” campaign to renovate the Sanctuary (Giving Link: https://membership.faithdirect.net/VA1112).
