Murray Neil Evans, 83, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. Born in North Carolina, he was a long-time Peninsula resident.
Mr. Evans retired as a Quality Control Supervisor from the Newport News Shipyard after 35 years of dedicated service. He was very involved as a member of Faith Baptist Church, enjoyed golf, and loved shooting pool.
Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years, Shirley Jean Evans. He is survived by two sons, James Carroll Evans (Elisa Smith) and Jackie Evans, both of Newport News, a daughter, Tonya Johnson (Tom), also of Newport News; a sister, Ida Belle Sellers of Supply, NC; seven grandchildren, Dawn, Lynne, Nicole, Amy, Holly, Tommy, and Dawson; nine great-grandchildren, Bobby, Baileigh, D.J., Jesiah, Taylor, Nick, Zillah, Abby, and Ryland; and a host of extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Weymouth Funeral Home by Pastor Larry Ronan. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
