We are saddened to announce the passing of Michael Roy Swartz, age 56, of Newport News, VA who went to be with the Lord on January 26th, 2022. He was born in Hampton, VA and raised by his devoted mother Evelyn Jean Swartz. He graduated from Patch American High School in Stuttgart, Germany in 1983. Mike worked for HRSD as a carpenter before recently retiring after 24 years. He attended Coastal Church in Yorktown, VA. Mike enjoyed watching sports, taking day trips to Colonial Williamsburg, and most of all time spent with family. He was incredibly proud to be a “Pop-pop” to his granddaughter Emily. Mike will always be remembered for his kindness, humor, big hugs, and loving devotion to his family. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Jean Swartz; his grandmother, Myrtle E. Hawes and his step-grandfather, Gene Bledsoe. Mike is survived by his wife of 33 years, Julia Payne Swartz and his four children: Steven and his wife, Molly, Daniel, Sarah, Beth as well as his granddaughter Emily.
A Funeral Service will be held at Weymouth Funeral Home on March 7th, 2022 at 12 pm with visitation beginning at 11 am. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
