Mary Randolph “Ranny” Scott Waddill, 95, died on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at The Newport. She was a lifelong resident of Newport News. Ranny was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church for 74 years. She loved gardening and cultivated rose gardens with her husband, Sam. They spent many hours on the James River aboard their boat, “Ranbo”. She was a member of the Hampton Roads Garden Club, the Junior League of Hampton Roads and the James River Country Club.
Ranny was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Samuel Edmund Waddill, Jr.; her son, Samuel “Bo” E. Waddill, III; her grandson, R. Mason Brown, III; and 3 siblings. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Anne Waddill Brown; her grandson, Samuel E. Waddill, IV, her daughter-in-law, Mary Gibson Waddill; Robert M. Brown, Jr. and many nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Peninsula Memorial Park by Rev. Anne Kirchmier. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 45 Main Street, Newport News, VA 23601. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
