Kulwant Singh Jani, age 64, died after a year-long battle with cancer in his home on March 28th at 9:19 a.m. around the comfort of his family.
Jani was born in Poonch, India and from a young age aspired to live in America. Growing up poor in a large family, he was forced to drop out of school and work. Jani worked an assortment of jobs in his lifetime and traveled all over India and Europe. Despite the difficult circumstances and barriers, he was able to achieve his dream of getting to America. One of the accomplishments he was most proud of was establishing Jani Food Mart, a local convenience store located on Warwick Blvd.
We all remember Jani as a kind-hearted soul who had the ability to brighten any room he walked into. He loved everyone whether you were white, Muslim, black, Baptist; he saw everyone as simply human. He believed there was a piece of God in everyone.
Please join us on Saturday March 31st, 2018 to commemorate the life of Kulwant Singh Jani. The funeral service will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Weymouth Funeral home: 12746 Nettles Drive, Newport News, VA 23606.
The funeral will be followed by prayer and lunch at the Chesapeake Gurudwara: 780 Finck Lane, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
