Joan Rosemary Murphy (née Johanna Rosemarie Kauper) died peacefully on August 8, 2017 in Newport News, VA at the age of 88. Mrs. Murphy was born on September 2, 1928 in Altenkunstadt, Germany to Johann Georg Kauper and Babette Kauper.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Lawrence Joshua Murphy. Mrs. Murphy is survived by her children, Ronald Murphy (Bea) of Maplegrove, MN, Lisa Powers (Bill) of Newport News, VA, and Barbara Agnew (Mike) of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren, Nikki Hudson (Jeff), Josh Powers (Lauren), Charlie Murphy, Rick Murphy (Nikki), Kate Agnew, and Sam Agnew; six great-grandchildren, Moira, Cora, and Aela Hudson, Elizabeth and Jack Powers, and Adalynn Murphy, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister, Hedwig Theil and a brother, Heinz Kauper (Margit), both of Altenkunstadt, Germany.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2018 from 7:00-8:00PM at Weymouth Funeral Home, 12746 Nettles Dr., Newport News, VA 23606. Burial will be private at Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens.
