James Francis Stanton, 76,  died unexpectedly at his home on March 20th 2018 in Newport News, Virginia. James was born on April 30th 1942 in Pittsburgh, PA to Clement & Helen Stanton. The family moved to Doylestown, PA where he attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School and Central Bucks High School where he graduated in 1961.
Following his lifelong dream to live in Southern California, Jim moved to Oceanside where he enrolled at Mira Mesa College. This lead him to a career in the grocery business where he worked as a manager for Vons Grocery Store for 45 years, ending in San Diego.

Upon his retirement, Jim’s desire to live closer to his family led him to relocate to Newport News. Shasa, as he was known to his family,  was preceded in his death by his parents, and sister, Peggy and brother, Bob. He is survived by his sister, Patty of Hampton and brother, Charlie (Diane Kaufman) of Norfolk. James had a loving heart and gentle spirit that made him a friend to anyone who met him. He helped many in need and never once asked  for anything in return.

The family will receive friends at Weymouth Funeral Home in Newport News on Monday, March 26, 2018 from 5:30 to 7 PM with a memorial service at 11 AM on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 also at Weymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peninsula SPCA. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
