After a long and courageous battle, Hilde (Trudy) R. Kohler Crasno passed away at home on August 19, 2018. Born in 1939 in Pirmasens, Germany, Trudy was raised, attended school and upon graduation worked in a shoe factory. After meeting and marrying Bob, a U. S. Soldier in the Army, they moved back to the United States making Virginia their permanent home. As a young mother of four children, Trudy was a homemaker until the children were of school age. Job opportunities with Hardee’s brought Trudy and Bob to Newport News. In the late 1970’s to early 1980’s, Trudy worked as the dining room hostess at the Jolly Lobster Restaurant and Night Club. She also worked at J.C. Penney, Farm Fresh, and most recently Walmart where she was a valued employee and had a wonderful work ethic. She enjoyed tanning by the pool in her younger years, dancing to disco music, socializing with friends, family, shopping, and helping her neighbors. But her greatest passion was caring for stray cats in her community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. (Bob) Crasno; son, Eckhard Kohler; parents, Julius and Mathilde Dahl Kohler; and sister, Elisabeth. Trudy is survived by her children, Jenny Hutson, Ann Crasno, Cathy Jones (Steve), Mark Crasno (Tao Lin); grandchildren Kristin Jones, Heather Jones, Stephanie Soto (Alfonso), Kacie Crasno, and Howard and Teresa Sexton; her brothers, Gerhardt J. Kohler and Karl Heinz Kohler and their families in Germany and her three precious cats, Sam, Boots and Baby.
We want to thank in particular the staff at Virginia Oncology Associates, for the many years of care; Personal Touch Home Care & Hospice, private aides Wanda and especially Angel, who called Trudy, “Miss Tootie.”
