George Edward Snead, Sr. 84, died on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at The Mennowood. He was born in 1933 in Halifax County, VA to Charlie Roy Snead and Lanie Mae Newton Snead. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. George had a long career at the Newport News Shipbuilding as an Industrial Engineer. He enjoyed giving back to the community through his work with Relay for Life and served as Past Governor of the Warwick Moose Lodge #1711. He was a member of Menchville Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren and family.
George was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Althea Snead Throckmorton and his very special grand-dog, Paco. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, May Marie Cheek Snead; his 3 children, George E. Snead Jr. (Holly) of Lynchburg, VA, Bruce D. Snead (Brenda) and Dawn S. Sain (Summey) all of Newport News, VA; his 7 grandchildren, Paula, Morgan, Dalton, Brittany, Jessica, Dalyn and Sean; 2 great-grandchildren, Layla and Mason.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 1:00-2:00pm at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park with Military Honors.
