Frances Roberta Solomon Tucker, 69, was born December 26, 1947 in Bronx, NY. She entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Sentara Heart Hospital Critical Care Unit in Norfolk, VA after an extended illness.

Frances graduated from both Central Commercial High School and Fordham University in New York City. Her career began at what was then known as the New York Telephone Co. She was one of their first female and African American Commercial Line installers. The largest project she worked on was the World Trade Center in New York City. Her career in the telephone industry spanned more than 25 years.

On September 9, 2009, Frances was united in Holy Matrimony in Newport News to the love of her life, John Tucker. John, who she called her “rock”, was a loving caregiver and devoted husband.

Her passions were family, traveling, watching movies, eating good food, collecting gadgets and watching Criminal Justice TV. Frances’ love for details, fact finding and research led her to become the family’s historian.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, John Tucker; sister, Margaret Seale Borders (Deforrest) of Durham, NC; son, Melvin Solomon Noriega (Itzel) of Mesa, AZ; step-sons, John T. Tucker, Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Randolph S. Tucker (Tanya) of Newport News, VA; step-daughter, Nicole Marsh (Maurice) of Boston, MA; 6 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.

Frances was blessed to have a superb healthcare team led by her Pulmonologist, Dr. Michael Eggert, and his staff.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
