Edith B. Elliott, 100, died at the Warwick Forest retirement community on Thursday, December 29, 2022.  She was born in Leonardtown, MD to Robert Bennett and Jane Norris Bennett.  She was raised by her grandparents in St Mary’s County following the death of her mother at a young age. She graduated Roosevelt High School and received her Associates Degree from St Mary’s College.  In 1944, while working as a clerk for the government, she married Albert Elliott.  In 1957 they moved to Hilton Village where she lived until her move to Warwick Forest in 2009. As well as being a homemaker, she was involved in her community.  Activities included leading scout troops, volunteering for Riverside Hospital Auxiliary, and participating in VA Homemakers Club and church Circle.  She was an avid birder, enjoyed square dancing with her husband, traveling extensively with best friends, the DeHoffs, and had a lifelong passion for bridge. She was a member of Hilton Presbyterian Church. An independent woman, she cut her own grass until the age of 85. Her great loves were her family and her home in beloved Hilton Village. Always gracious and pragmatic, she handled her declining health with grace and dignity.  She was perceptive and had a wonderful sense of humor.  She thoroughly enjoyed celebrating her 100th birthday with family and friends.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lynn Elliott of Albuquerque, NM and Barbara Elliott (Brian MacDonald) of Newport News; grandchildren, Diana Rogers of Newport News, Robin Gricol (Joel) of AZ, and Kendra Elliott of CA; great-grandchildren, Tyler Rogers, Jordyn Gricol, and Brixen Fodor.  She is predeceased by her husband, Albert; her sister, Ivy Prucha; cousin and best friend, Peggy Norsworthy and so many other loved ones.  As she said “I am about the last of the Mohicans”.

Special thanks to Fred Ingles (deceased) for being such a good friend and driving her to numerous bridge games.  Thank you to Warwick Forest angels, Sarah Hester, Desja, Robin, Lisa, and the Riverside Hospice staff.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Hilton Presbyterian Church in Newport News at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 with a reception to follow at the home of Diana Rogers in Hilton Village. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, Edith requested memorial gifts be sent to Peninsula Foodbank or Peninsula Rescue Mission.

Such a sweet, sweet Lady that I knew for such a short time. Hope I have her vivid memory until my final days as did Edith. I know this comes with such sadness to family but also some relief that she can finally rest in the hands of those Mohicans that passed before her.
