Darrell Rodney Brown, age 66, went to sleep in death on Sunday, December 25, 2022. He was the loving husband of Susan, for whom he wore his superhero cape for almost 35 years.
Born in Bronx NY, to Juanita Wilson, Darrell graduated from Martin Van Buren High School and went on to serve 24 years in the United States Air Force where he not only saw the world but made lifelong friendships. After retiring from the Air Force, he joined J35 South, Joint Force Command Division Force Analysis Branch as a Force Analyst, who was loved and respected by all.
When Darrell could no longer play basketball, his love for the game led him to the Virginia Basketball Officials Association, where he refereed both High School and Recreational League games and participated in the training of new referees. As a former sprinter, he had a passion for Track and Field and followed it on every level. If Darrell wasn’t watching sports, you could find him out riding his bike, working in his garden, perfecting his grill skills and happily seeking where next to explore, even if just for a day, so that he could add another magnet to his collection. He also loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his mother, Juanita; his wife, Susan; his children, Kaerell and Mian; his grandchild, Kasen; his siblings, Alton (Felice), Kim and Jerome (Gwen); his sister-in-law, Terry-Ann (Henry); his brother-in-law, Richard (Nicole); his cousins, David, Kenneth, Stacey and Doris, and many others along with nieces, nephews, grandnephews and grandnieces.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Weymouth Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
