Margaret "Rose" Brandt, 64, of Newport News joined her heavenly angels December 17, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. She spent her final hours on earth in the loving arms of her daughter, surrounded by those she loved.
Rose was born in Lexington, Kentucky. Her family relocated to Newport News, Virginia in 1966. As a young girl, she enjoyed spending time with her siblings and her friends.
At the tender age of 19, Rose was a single mother of 2. Determined to raise her children on her own, she found work in the automotive factories in the area. She wanted more for her children, so she took on another job as a waitress in a local restaurant. She continued working two, sometimes three, jobs over the next several years. Her work ethic, determination, and physical strength allowed her to gain a high level of respect in a male dominated industry. Later, when the factories permanently closed their doors, Rose found employment at Unilever (Lipton Tea) in Suffolk, VA, where she eventually retired.
Rose met her soul mate, Jerry, 32 years ago and were inseparable ever since. They shared a mutual love for fishing. They often said "There is no better place to be than on a boat, in the open water". Rose also loved spending time with family, being at the beach, watching the sunrise, and defying the odds at casinos.
Rose was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Taylor Marie Dorset; her sister, Marilyn Caldwell and her parents, Winnie and John Barrett. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Brandt; her children, Tonie Dorset (Eric), David Dorset, and Chris and Jerry Brandt Jr; her grandsons, Dylan and David; her siblings, Phyllis (James) Gwynn, Donna Marti, John (Elizabeth) Barrett, Raymond (Linda) Barrett, as well as a slew of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Most notably her lifelong best friend (her sister), Debbie Cagle.

May God provide the entire family peace during this very difficult time.
May you rest in peace, I love you, your big brother Johnny
I hate that you are not here with us anymore in this physical world. I take comfort in knowing that you are reunited with so many people that you loved and lost. I can only imagine the chats you are having with your parents, Aunt Marilyn and your sweet Taylor. My daddy is sure to be next to you listening because he always loved to be in the ladies gossip!! I promise to do everything I can to help the family and I will even go to the Casino with mom in your honor.
Tonie and Bubba, as per our family tradition, I will leave you with this: Death leaves a heartache that no one can heal, but LOVE leaves a memory that no one can steal. May the love that surrounds you today give you the courage to face all of your tomorrows. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I am a phone call away. I love you all.
