Laurie Goodner Hartmann, 71, passed away on December 21, 2022 after a five-year long battle with cancer.

Laurie was born in Mansfield, Ohio to Catherine Owens and Dolen Goodner. She was a military brat and lived in a few states before she landed in Texas and met her husband, P.T. They dated for three years before they married on June 7, 1974. In 1978, they welcomed their twins, Jason and Eric. She welcomed her daughter-in-law in 2001 and three grandsons over the years.

Laurie worked at Mary Ann’s Hallmark for several years before transitioning to a PEEP program assistant with Newport News Public Schools, where she worked until her retirement in 2014. Laurie always had so many stories about her years working with “her” kids at NNPS. She loved those kids like her own. She made life-long friends wherever she worked.

Laurie loved life, she loved telling stories from when she was growing up and when she raised twins. She was famous for calling her sons on their birthday and pretending she was in labor! She loved taking trips to the beach to look at and photograph lighthouses and pelicans.  She also enjoyed lunch with her friends, watching her favorite shows with her daughter-in-law, and of course, reading. She was an avid reader and made several trips for reader's weekends or to meet special authors and attend book events.

Laurie is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, P.T. Hartmann, her sons, Jason and Eric; her “daughter”, Rachel; her three grandsons – Brody, Maverick and Wyatt; her sister, Kathy (aka Sissy) and a host of nieces, nephews and in-laws that she loved dearly.

Laurie lit up a room with her smile, gave the best hugs, and made sure to say I love you and be safe before ending a conversation.  Her family misses her greatly, but feel secure in the knowledge she is in the loving hands of God.

Her Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at St. Jerome Catholic Church with a reception to follow.

If you would like to make a donation, in lieu of flowers, please make your donation to St. Jerome Catholic Church. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.

We are out of town and learned the news from Marion Vaughan. We are so saddened for you and the boys. I will never forget talking to her on the phone from the Holiday Inn to congratulate her on your wedding.
