Gerald "Jerry" A. Loose

Gerald A. Loose, 54, passed away on December 19, 2021 from COVID. Jerry grew up in Watkins Glen, NY and graduated from Watkins Glen High School in 1985. He received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Mansfield University in 1989. After graduation, he worked at Northern Tier Youth Services in Blossburg, PA and  Kidspeace in Orefield, PA.

He joined the Newport Police Department in 1994 and was promoted to Sergeant in 2000. Jerry was a mentor to young officers on the force and a great friend to everyone.  He was the light in the room at every function.  He was a tremendous chef. He could fix anything with the help of YouTube. He loved to golf and go on long motorcycle rides with his many friends.  He made lifelong friends who loved him dearly.  

Jerry is survived by his parents, James A. Loose and Barbara A. Loose; his brother, John C. Loose and his wife, Marianne; his sister, Debra Gonyeau and her husband, Steve; his nieces, Lauren and Grace Loose; nephews, Nathen and Cameron Gonyeau and his longtime partner, Jana Smith.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2022 at First Baptist Church, 12716 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23606 with Police Honors. Masks are required.
