Coleman "Jim" James Turner, Jr.

Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m., Sunday, November 21, 2021

Location: Ivy Farms Church of the Brethren

Coleman “Jim” James Turner, Jr., 80, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Jim was born in Marion, NC. He served in the U.S. Army and graduated from the Newport News Apprentice School. He began his 41year career as a pipefitter/welder. He was a welder for the Newport News Shipyard and was proud of the work he did which included working on the Carrier Enterprise. He was a dedicated member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union 110. He even obtained his real estate license.

What filled his heart was his faith. He prided himself as a Fisher-of-Men; some he hooked and caught, and some got away. He served as a deacon and was a member of Ivy Farms Church of the Brethren.  Jim considered himself a “Friend of the working man”. When not working, he loved his yard. He had a green thumb and enjoyed nature, especially his birds and beautiful flowers.

Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Eunice Turner and his second wife, Evelyn Turner and his brothers, Howard “Gene” E. Turner and Louis H. Turner. He is survived by his nieces, Amy Majors, Amanda Ward, Brandi York, Crystal Turner, and Sterling Cooke; his 4 great-nieces and 4 great-nephews; many beloved cousins and his sister-in-law and friend, Patti Queen.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Ivy Farms Church of the Brethren by Dr. Alexander Jamison. Donations can be made in Jim’s memory to the Ivy Farms Church of the Brethren, 681 Dresden Drive, Newport News, VA 23601.
