Milagros Mendoza Lagatuz, 89, left us peacefully on April 21, 2024, in Newport News, VA.

A member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, Milagros was a woman of faith and a devout Catholic, finding comfort and strength in the Lord. She has now been reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband of 46 years, Amado Ruales Lagatuz, her parents Julio Mendoza and Cristina Salen Mendoza, and her siblings Eulogio Mendoza and Julio Mendoza.

As the matriarch of the family, Milagros was respectfully known as "Ate”. She was born in the Philippines and immigrated to the United States in 1989, bringing with her a joyful spirit that lit up every room she entered. Milagros was always seen with a big smile on her face, and her laughter filled the hearts of all those around her.

Milagros had a large family, and she cherished every moment with them. She always brought something to eat when visiting, making each family member feel like they were special.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Jeorge Lagatuz and his wife, Precy, and their children, Puknoy-Edna, Michael Allen, and JR (Egoy); Danny Lagatuz, and his wife, Janet, and their children, Danica, Charmagne, CJ, (and husband, Jom); Liza Harvey and her husband, Bill, and their children, Jason (and wife, May), Daniel, KC, (and husband, Chancie); Gina Schultz and her husband, James, and their children, Patrick De Vera, Trisha Quillopo (and husband, Larry), and Gie De Vera; Nida Reambonanza and her husband, Roy, and their children, Rani and Rheanne. Milagros is also survived by her siblings, whom she had a very close bond with: Reynalda Saba, Cornelia Maranan, Conrado Mendoza, Trinidad Ralsten, and Zeny Abdon.

Ate had 13 great-grandchildren and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews who cherished her deeply.

Milagros had a fulfilling career at George Washington Inn, where she worked for many years before retiring in 2005. She was loved by her coworkers and friends for the same reasons her family adored her: her warmth, kindness, and unwavering joyful spirit.

Milagros' legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family invites her friends and family to celebrate her life, honoring her memory and the joy she brought into the world. May she rest in peace, wrapped in the arms of the Lord.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be conducted from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
