Bernard Chesley McClelland, Jr., 72, of Yorktown, VA, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024 after an 8-year-long battle with dementia.

Bernie was born to Bernard Chesley and Alice Irene McClelland in Newport News, VA.  After graduating from Newport News High School in 1970, he began his 30-year-plus career through multiple roles at Howmet Corporation.

He met Pamela Adcock McClelland in high school and married his soulmate on May 27, 1972.  His lifelong vow to be by her side was kept until the very end.  His legacy will live on through his children, Bryan and Brittany and as “Pop Pop” to his five grandchildren.

Bernard had a passion for the outdoors.  His love of hunting, fishing and golfing took him on many adventures with his friends and family. The walls in the house they built together are decorated with their trophies and accomplishments throughout the years.  He was a master craftsman, creating many beautiful pieces that will be treasured by his family for generations.  The care he poured into the McClelland Family horse, Ginger and property is clearly evident when viewing the grounds of his home.

Along with his wife, Pamela and his family, special memories were made with Annual Outer Banks beach trips.  Bernie would often disappear for hours just walking the shoreline collecting shells and beautiful driftwood.

Preceded in death are Bernard Chesley McClelland, Sr., father; Alice Irene McClelland, mother; Pamela Adcock McClelland, beloved wife; Jack Anthony McClelland, brother. Survived by Bryan McClelland, son (Daiquiri); Brittany McClelland, daughter (Yancy); grandchildren, Brigham and Talia McClelland, Cheslee, Brentlee, and Adaline DuHamel; Melvin McClelland, brother; Robert Bradley McClelland, brother and Lynn McClelland Alligood, sister.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Weymouth Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held directly after visitation at the funeral home with interment to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.

Bernie, will always be remembered as a caring person, with love for everyone. The hugs he gave me from the time he was a wee little. I loved his smile, and I love you. Like his Dad, he loved to create. I loved the way he and Pam loved each other. Will always love you.
