Charles “Charlie” Moore, Jr., 88, went peacefully to be with his Heavenly Father on January 8, 2024. He was born in Greene County, NC to Charles Aycock Moore and Eulah Grady Moore in 1935. He and his beautiful wife, Georgia, moved from Farmville, NC to Newport News, VA in 1957. He met and worked for Dee Howell of Hilton Motors.  Anyone who encountered the two of them together truly experienced some comedic relief.  Charlie went on to own and operate Ivy Farms Texaco and eventually opened Moore’s Auto Repair in 1970.  He and Georgia successfully owned the mom-and-pop business through 2004, when their son, Steve took over the family business.  Charlie was thoughtful, kind, compassionate, hardworking, loving, a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He was also devoted to the vast amount of customers and fellow car industry community partners. Charlie was so amazing at what he did that he was able to diagnose car issues by customers imitating sounds. Upon the return of one customer, he told them “No charge, but here is the petrified orange that was rolling under your seat making the noise.” Years ago, he had a customer who for many years was no longer able to drive her car, but insisted on having it maintained and oil changed every few months.  He would sometimes walk to get her car in Hilton, drive it to the shop, check it over, and return it to her home, many times at no charge. He was an honest businessman. Charlie was very proud of his “Doctor of Motors” diploma and his “Certified Ford Mechanic” sign. He never owned vehicles other than Ford or Mercury.  His favorite car ever owned was a 1951 Merc-O-Matic. He was a true servant and man of God.  Charlie never met a stranger and after five minutes of talking with him, you loved him.  He greeted everyone in public as if they were friends.  His family felt an overpouring love from him ALL the time.  He had a never-ending pride for his family and made you feel like you were the best.  He was humble and gave all glory to God no matter the situation. He would consistently tell people “God is good, all the time.” He had a very comical side and was known for funny facial expressions, spur-of-the-moment breakouts in song and dance, and allowed you to take pictures of him using a bunny rabbit or puppy filter. Those pictures and videos will be cherished. The family finds much joy in knowing that Charlie and the love of his life, Georgia, are together again.

Charlie is survived by his son, Steve Moore, and wife, Carolyn of Hampton, VA; daughters, Shearl Adkins of Gates County, NC, Ann Freed and June Barbrey of Newport News, VA; son-in-law, Allen Barbrey of Newport News; grandsons, Travis Taylor and wife, Crystal of Williamsburg, VA, Logan Alligood of Newport News, VA, Eric Moore of Hampton, VA and Nathan Freed of Greer, SC; granddaughters, April Heckenliable and husband, Craig of Gates County, NC, Lauren (Freed) Williams and husband, Jay of Greer, SC and Anne Morgan Alligood of Detroit Lakes, MN; great-grandchildren, Stacie Ainsley, Talon Taylor, and Jaxon Taylor; brother, Clarence Moore, and wife, Janet of Carrollton, VA; sister, Irene Mench of Worton, MD and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to honor him from 1:00 – 1:40 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home with interment to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.

I was heartbroken to find out tonight about Mr Moore passing. He was a dear man who helped me out more than my share and took such good care of my car for me always making sure I was good and the car was running like it should be. I am so very sorry to hear of his passing and my heart goes out to his family. You are all in my thoughts and prayers and your sweet Daddy and Mama will be remembered fondly but so many. God bless each of you.

charlie moore... a true example of what God intended a man to be. always putting God first in all he did! He was a true family man , and had an endless love for them all! he was one of the nicest, most genuine men i've ever had the pleasure of knowing. i had the pleasure of having charlie as a father in law for many years, little did i know the memories would carry on even today, often reflecting on how he made life seem so easy... simply put... God ! charlie was definitely a Ford man, the letters of the cars he loved describe him well . Faithful, obedient, Rational and dependent in the lord in all he did. He loved to sing! sundays in the choir and the gospel quartet were always a treat to hear... and whenever i would see him later in life he would always tell me he still prayed for me every day, thats the character of charlie. His bay doors in heaven have opened up and he's finally in the place he's prepared his whole life to go. Heaven has definitely gained another angel!

So sorry for your loss. My late father Horst Jahn and Mr Moore were friends and had many things in common, especially their love for Fords and their mechanical knowledge. I hope they are in heaven talking all times! Prayers to all the family.
