Elona Carmen Lay, 69, of Newport News, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister was called to her eternal home on October 12, 2023. She was born in Newport News to Charles and Edith Mignogna.

When she got married, she moved to Cincinnati, OH for several years where they had their child, Tasha. Later they moved back to Newport News to be closer to family where she had a successful career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She loved spending time with people and loved to help them in a time of need. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Elona was preceded in death by her parents. Left to cherish and honor her memory, is her husband, Raymond Lay; her daughter, Tasha LeBray (Herman); her grandchildren, Victoria Underwood and Jordan LeBray of Stafford, VA; her beloved brother, Alberto Mignogna (Christine) of Hayes, VA; nieces, Vicky Mignogna-Smith (Kurt) with their daughters, Sophia and Zoey Smith of Newport News, VA, Mary McCormick (Samuel) with their sons, Sam and Dylan McCormick of Kill Devil Hills, NC.

The family wishes to acknowledge the support of all those at Riverside Hospital, James River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, and York Nursing and Rehabilitation.

A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Peninsula Memorial Park by Rev. Dennis Worsham. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in memory of Elona to THRIVE Peninsula Non-Profit, 13195 Warwick Blvd STE 2C, Newport News, VA 23602.

Arrangements are under the care of Weymouth Funeral Home.
