Phillip Hartness Rowe, 87, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 3, 2023, after a lengthy illness.

He was a lifelong resident of Newport News and was employed by the City of Newport News Public Works as a Superintendent. He worked for the city until his retirement in 1983.

Phillip was born at the home of his parents, Bernard H. and Sally B. Rowe. He and his father built a home in the late 1950’s for Phillip and his future wife, Janice to live in for the next 62 years. He actually lived on the same property for all of his 87 years.

Upon retirement from the City of Newport News, he worked for a time at Fairlanes Hidenwood Bowling Center. He spent over 40 years working and being apart of the congregation at Colony Friends Church. He enjoyed singing with his wife, Janice at many retirement homes, entertaining the residents there.

Phillip was preceded in death by his wife, Janice M. Rowe, as well as his mother and father, Bernard and Sally. He is survived by his son, Gary Phillip Rowe and his wife, Karen; his grandchildren, Ryan Phillip Rowe and Jamie Phillip Rowe; his great-grandson, Liam Mason; his brother, Barry D. Rowe and wife, Anita.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at the Weymouth Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
