Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 18, 2023

Location: Weymouth Funeral Home

Visitation: Following the Service

Location: Weymouth Funeral Home

Kenneth W. Phaup Sr., 68, went to be with his Lord and savior on Monday, March 13, 2023. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Margie and Tommy Phaup. He leaves behind his loving family, his wife, Jan Phaup; his sister, Carolyn Phaup (Charlie Southall); his children, Rachel Pearce (Davis), Anna Ward (Peter), and Kenny Phaup, Jr. (Joey Hensberger) and grandchildren, Henry, William, Martha, and Macon.

Ken was born in Newport News, Virginia, and grew up in Northampton. He was raised with his lifelong friend and sister, Carolyn Phaup. He was also raised surrounded by a big, loving extended family, and enjoyed many family events with aunts, uncles, and beloved cousins. While attending Bethel High School, Ken was saved and committed his life to serving the Lord. He then met his high school sweetheart, Jan and they were married for over 48 years. They were blessed with three children and four grandchildren. One of Ken’s proudest accomplishments is having been called Papa by the grandchildren he dearly loved.

Volunteering with the youth ministry at Grace Fellowship Church was one of Ken’s favorite pastimes and he was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. He especially enjoyed sharing those joys with friends and family. Ken loved playing his Martin guitar, experimenting with spices and recipes in the kitchen, and visiting/sharing food with friends (wrapping fudge was his specialty).

Ken spent his early life building houses, having started his own drywall business in Hampton Roads. His career then merged into real estate, where he worked at Greg Garrett Realty for 25 years. Ken loved watching sports, talking about American history, old movies, and feeding the fattest squirrels in Newport News.

Ken will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor and contagious belly laughs. We will remember his adventurous culinary spirit, and appreciation for all animals including his dog and the bluebirds he so enjoyed watching and feeding in his backyard. His lifelong mission was spent thinking about and providing for his family, and for this, he will be truly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Weymouth Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private at Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.

Will always remember teaching Jan and Kenny, how to diaper a baby doll when they were getting ready to have Rachel! Love you both so much!

Carolyn, I am so sorry for your loss. A brother or sister are you first friends and they stay your lifelong friends I know this is left an empty space in your heart, but remember the rest of that heart is filled with loving memories of that brother. May the Lord wrap his arms around you and your family, and bring them comfort in knowing that he rests in heaven above, and will watch over us.
