A Graveside Service Will Take Place At A Later Date

Location: Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA

James J. Vermeiren passed away unexpectedly on February 14, 2023, in Newport News, VA, where he lived for the past 38 years. He was born in Springfield, MA. Jim was an outdoor enthusiast. He loved birds, dogs, fishing, hunting and target shooting. Each year, he went to deer camp with the same group of friends who always looked forward to his famous chili.

Jim was a passionate gardener, growing blueberries and various vegetables. He was famous for his jams which he would exchange for “cukes” in order to make pickles for all. His sourdough bread was legendary, made from his starter that he kept alive for 20 years. He always loved sharing his bread with friends. Another one of his hobbies was building birdhouses that he gave to his bird loving friends. Jim’s generosity, kindness and giving spirit made a difference to his community and beyond and truly mattered to people.

After serving 12 years as a U.S. Air Force officer, he built a successful career as a civil servant in the U.S. Air Force. Jim had a very special place in his heart for all who served in the military and police force.

He leaves behind a brother and several cousins.

Jim will be buried in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA, at a later date. Donations may be made in Jim’s memory to any charity that supports veterans. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
