Esther Ruth VanHorn, 84, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 25, 2017. She was born in Columbia, SC and had made her home in Newport News for over 50 years. She retired from Ft. Eustis as a paymaster with civil service after 32 years of service. She was a devout Christian and was a member of First Baptist Church, Newport News. She enjoyed cross stitch and crocheting and expressed her love for her family by making them personalized afghans.
Mrs. VanHorn was preceded in death by her husband, Norman VanHorn; her son, Harold VanHorn; her son-in-law, Harry Miller and 8 siblings. She is survived by her son, Wayne VanHorn and his wife, Terri of Clinton, MS; her daughters, Cindy Miller of Preston, MD and Barbara “Joy” Booth and her husband, Art of Newport News; her 7 grandchildren: Erin, Nathan, Ben, Michael, Crystal, Danny and Amanda and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 10:00-11:00am at Weymouth Funeral Home with Funeral Services to be conducted at 11:00am at the funeral home chapel.
