Edgar Lee Capps, Jr., 83, of Newport News, VA passed away on July 30, 2023. Edgar was born to Edgar Lee Capps, Sr and Mildred Simpson Capps in Norfolk, Virginia. He graduated from Maury High School and later attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, more commonly known as Virginia Tech. Edgar was a member of the VT Corps of Cadets. He also attended ODU and Richmond University. In the U.S. Marine Corps, Edgar proudly served in Vietnam. He married Judith Merton Pope in 1963 and had two daughters. He spent his career in computer systems management, retiring from Norfolk International Terminals.
Edgar was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Judy, in 2018. He is survived by his two children, Dr. Connie Capps of Norfolk, VA and Mrs. Kathy Hall of West Virginia; his three grandchildren, Chase and Madison Capps, both of Norfolk, VA and Allison Moore of Newport News, VA and his younger brother, Robert Capps of Florida.
Edgar, known as Eddie, enjoyed home improvement, building and was an avid sailor for many years. He spent most of his free time working on something at the house or out on the water. Eddie was a father who loved the best way he knew how. Edgar provided for his children and gave them a foundation to provide for their children. His knowledge and resourcefulness will be dearly missed. His struggle has ended, and we hope that he has finally found peace and reconciliation with God through Christ Jesus.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 18, 2023 at Peninsula Memorial Park by Pastor Hank Teague with military honors. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
