Dennis Katz, DDS passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at the age of 81. Dennis was born to Samuel and Rose Katz in Brooklyn, NY. The family moved from Brooklyn to Lakewood, NJ, where he graduated high school. He then attended Temple University as an undergraduate and continued there for his Doctor of Dental Surgery. While at school, he met the love of his life, Karen Hillerson, and they married in 1967.
Upon graduation, he joined the United States Air Force, where they traveled to Wichita Falls, TX and were ultimately stationed at Langley AFB. Once he fulfilled his duty, he established his dental practice in Hampton, with Karen as his hygienist, where they practiced for 45 years, having retired in 2014. Gifted with his hands, his focus was on his patients and delivering a final product that matched each of them. He was also a member of the American Dental Association and Virginia Dental Association for over 50 years, Hampton Rotary Club, on the Hampton Board of Zoning Appeals, and a member of Temple Sinai.
Dennis grew up fishing and boating, continuing that love throughout his life. He loved the serenity of living on and being on the water. He enjoyed working with his hands through sculpting and woodworking. His hands and mind were never idle, taking projects from concept through completion. He was a jack of all trades and will be dearly missed.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Rose. He is survived by his wife, Karen; children, Sheryl Speicher (Steve) and Jeff Katz; grandchildren, Rachel Speicher and Joshua Speicher; his brother, Herman Katz (Betty); sister-in-law, Lynn Cherin, and many additional loving family members and friends.
A Memorial Service honoring his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at Temple Sinai, 11620 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, VA 23601.
