Barbara Jean Hathaway, 72, was called home on Saturday, March 10, 2018. Originally from Nelson, Virginia, she moved to the Peninsula in 1968 and retired to Gloucester Point in 2004. She worked as a medical administrator at the VAMC in Hampton. In recent years, she worked as a wildlife animal transporter for Sacred Friends, a wildlife rehabilitation organization. She loved helping animals in distress. What made her most happy was having gatherings with family and friends, horseback riding, visiting and spending time with her grandchildren, painting and helping all God’s creatures no matter how small. Her heart was huge and her love of family was immeasurable.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 13 years, William E.K. Hathaway and her beloved sister, Sandra “Kay” Falls. She is survived by her brother, Richard Tuck (Carolyn); her sister, Patricia Farrar (Joe); daughters, Donna Haelman, Amy Hontos (Pete), Cynthia Wilson (Kevin); her son, Clement Hefferon II (Felicia); as well as 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a number of special nieces and nephews.
